Weakley County is a beautiful place with wonderful natural resources, such as Big Cypress Tree State Natural Park located at 295 Big Cypress Road, Greenfield, TN. This 330 acre State Natural Area was once the home of a champion bald cypress tree and the hunting grounds for David Crockett.

Fiddlesticks Festival, Greenfield, TN – Held in April. A local family who owns a carnival business started the event to give back to the community. The name comes from the hand-made ice cream treat often seen at the event…vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate and rolled in peanuts. Rides are free during the festival.

Kiwanis Christmas Parade, Martin, TN - Event ushers in the Christmas season. Parade is a highlight of the Light Up Martin event on the same day with food trucks, a concert, attractions for children, and fireworks to add excitement to the beginning of the holiday season.

Discovery Park of America, Union City, TN – “Discovery Center’s 70,000 square feet of space will feature exhibits related to regional history, natural history, alternative energy, Native American history, the arts, science/space/industry, congressional forums, wildlife, and special exhibits. Traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian and other museums will be featured on a rotating basis. There will be themed exhibit buildings, a grand hall conference and convention center, botanical gardens and green areas, and working farm fields and gardens. There will also be outdoor areas designated for exhibits, such as antique cars, aircraft, and alternative energy. An amphitheater that can serve a variety of educational, entertainment, and cultural purposes is also planned. The grounds and other facilities will be available for weddings and receptions.”

Ned R. McWherter Museum, Weakley County Library, Dresden, TN – “In the back of the Ned R. McWherter Weakley County Library is the Ned R. McWherter Museum. The museum is dedicated in the Loving Memory of the governor’s parents Lucille and Harmon McWherter. The room is a part of the Library he built and furnished as a gift to his home county. The room reveals photos ranging from family to presidents and foreign leaders. There is memorabilia tracing his life from childhood to Governor…
The Governor stated: “I just wanted the kids from this area to be able to come to the library, go through the room, and maybe see that you can grow up here, born in circumstances like I was, my Mama and Daddy were sharecroppers, but if you work hard enough and put forth the effort, you can be governor or in congress of even president.’ ”
