Weakley County is serviced by the Everett-Stewart Regional Airport.
Everett-Stewart Regional Airport has a 6,500′ by 100′ asphalt runway with a full ILS approach. It currently has the longest instrument runway of any General Aviation Airport in the state outside of Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis. The airport has a modern lighting system, a 36 inch rotating beacon, 2 large corporate hangars, a 10 unit T-Hangar, an administration building, and offers all the amenities of the larger airports without the hassle. The airport offers flying lessons, storage facilities, charter service, and has 2 maintenance shops who offers repair services. Both 100 low lead fuel and jet fuel are available. Local radio is Unicom 122.7.
In December of 2006, Obion and Weakley Counties joined together to operate the airport, and at that time the name was changed to Everett-Stewart Regional Airport. A seven member board (4 from Obion County and 3 from Weakley County) was selected and the work began. It did not take long to realize the impact that this “joint venture” would have on the ability to acquire grants and receive recognition throughout the state. Through the leadership of the Everett-Stewart Regional Airport Board, the airport has received over $6.5 million for improvements.
Everett-Stewart Regional Airport is a great asset. It is the “Front Door to the Community”. The airport is a vital role in this region’s ability to compete with the larger cities to attract and bring potential industry and business to this region. In order to compete with larger towns, or even with other states, Everett-Stewart Regional Airport wanted the ability to safely accommodate larger business jets. In many instances, the potential investor’s first impression of our area comes when he steps off that airplane.
Although the Airport Board has not finalized the Mission Statement, it will fall along these lines: “TO ENHANCE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NORTHWEST TENNESSEE BY PROVIDING AN EXCEPTIONAL AIRPORT THAT MEETS THE NEEDS OF BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY TODAY AND TOMORROW”
The nearest commercial air service is in Jackson, TN (50 miles away), at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport. Both commuter and charter services are available at that location.
There is also commercial service available in Paducah, Kentucky, fifty five miles north of Weakley County. This airport is served by Ozark and Delta with flights to many major cities.
